Computing
We believe that a high-quality computing education is essential for our pupils to thrive in our increasingly digital world. Our computing curriculum is designed to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills and understanding to become responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.
We ensure pupils develop the ability to effectively use a range of information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, to create digital content, analyse data, and communicate their ideas. Pupils also learn how to use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly, recognising acceptable/unacceptable behaviour and how to report concerns. This is underpinned by the DfE's 'Education for a Connected World' framework, which outlines the specific online safety and digital literacy skills that pupils should develop.
Our curriculum is sequenced to build on prior learning, ensuring pupils develop a deep, interconnected understanding of the key concepts in computing. We start in Key Stage 1 by teaching the basics of algorithms, programming and using technology purposefully. This progresses through Key Stage 2 where pupils design, write and debug more complex programmes, understand computer networks, and select appropriate software to achieve goals.
Throughout their time at Funtington Primary, we aim to nurture pupils' natural curiosity and creativity in computing, inspiring them to see the subject as a means to understand and change the world around them. We want our pupils to become digitally literate - able to use, and express themselves through, information and communication technology - at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.
